Joe Rodon to Leeds United: Tottenham stance, 'behind the scenes' talks and Farke's big admission

Joe Rodon's future is now up in the air following the end of his loan spell with Leeds

Joe Rodon's 2023-24 season has come to an end and it won't have finished with the crescendo he was hoping for.

After playing such a vital role in helping loan club Leeds United get into the Championship play-offs, his campaign ultimately ended in disappointment, with the Whites going down 1-0 to Southampton at Wembley.

Although their season ended on a sour note, Rodon's campaign, on a personal level at least, was a huge success. He was a mainstay at the heart of Daniel Farke's defence and he quickly became a fans' favourite in Yorkshire for his body-on-the-line approach to defending.

But the question is, what now for the Welshman? He has a year left on his Tottenham contract but his future appears up in the air. Let's look at what's been said and see how the land lies.

Rodon: I love it here

Speaking before the play-off final, Rodon admitted that he'd like some stability going forward, having spent the past two campaigns away from Spurs - the first spell being with French club Rennes.

“It would be nice to have stability and know where I am next season," he said. "I’ve always strived to get to the elite level and hopefully I can get back there with Leeds, but you never know.

“I don’t want to look too far into the future, although I do love it here and Leeds feels like a second home to me now. I’m just concentrating on giving my best and getting this club back to where it belongs.”

No talks with Postecoglou

In the same interview with the Mail, the Swansea product admitted he had not spoken to Ange Postecoglou before leaving Spurs and heading north for the season.

"Not really. I didn't communicate a lot on that side," he added. "I'm a big boy and I'm not going to dwell on things. I knew that the best thing for me was to be playing every week.

"Things developed at the back end of the transfer window last summer and I'd played against the boss's Norwich team a few times.

"I felt his style of football was always going to benefit me and how I like to play. Of course Leeds being Leeds, it's a massive club and I just knew it was a big opportunity.

"It's probably been the maddest season ever, but I've loved every minute of it."

Tottenham are believed to want to cash in on Rodon this summer and will have been buoyed by his impressive form at Elland Road. Premier League interest is reportedly held in his services.

Farke's admission

It's clear Leeds would love to keep the 26-year-old beyond his loan agreement, with boss Daniel Farke admitted earlier on this season that "behind the scenes" work had taken place to sign him permanently.

"Behind the scenes we're working [on a deal], there's no doubt," said Farke, as reported by The Mirror, earlier on this year.

"We're more than happy with Joe. His performances are developing. You see him growing more and more into a leader role. You see how much it means to him to wear this white shirt and defend this white shirt in games. I think he's happy to be here, happy to be an important part. He was crucial to our really good performances and development. We would like him to stay for a bit longer but it's not an urgent topic."
