Will Ferry close to Dundee United transfer as Jim Goodwin looks set to win race for left back

The former Republic of Ireland Under 21 international looks set for Tannadice after Cheltenham's relegation.

Dundee United look to have won the fight to sign Will Ferry.

United hope to finalise a deal for the out-of-contract Cheltenham full-back over the coming days. Jim Goodwin is set to beat off interest from both sides of the border to land the 23-year-old. Goodwin has been pushing for a deal since United won promotion back to the Premiership and letting Scott McMann leave the club.

Ferry has been at Cheltenham for two years after coming through the ranks at Southampton. United have also agreed a two year deal to sign goalkeeper Dave Richards on a two year deal from Crewe. The 30-year-old spent last season on loan at St Johnstone but has opted for a permanent move to Tannadice.United are also keen on North Macedonian winger Kristijan Trapanovski. Trapanovski is currently with FC Shkupi. United are waiting to see if a deal can be agreed and there are also work permit obstacles.
