Kobbie Mainoo puts Man Utd contract talks on hold amid plans to quadruple his salary
Kobbie Mainoo has agreed a new and improved Manchester United deal but has put that contract announcement on hold as the teenage star prepares for Euro 2024
Kobbie Mainoo is poised to pen a lucrative new deal at Manchester United - but wants to put talks on hold until after the Euros.
The midfielder has enjoyed a breakout campaign for the Red Devils, making his first start in October before going on to establish himself and score in the FA Cup final en route to picking up the trophy at Wembley.
His efforts on the pitch mean the Manchester outfit want to secure Mainoo's long-term future with a new deal that will see him quadruple his wages to around £80,000-a-week. The player himself has agreed to the deal in principle, but wants to put negotiations on hold until July, reports the Daily Star.
The teenager is poised to be part of England's squad at the major tournament having already made his debut. He will return to discussions once his international commitments have ended.

Mainoo will then turn his focus to club matters ahead of the new season, when he will likely put pen to paper on a new deal.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe has made it one of his priorities to ensure Mainoo lands himself a new contract to keep him at Old Trafford. The player only signed a new deal in February, which runs until 2026, but his progress, development and standing in the team will see United offer another improved contract.
The club have always placed a huge onus on having young, homegrown players in their ranks and Mainoo is one of the most exciting players to be produced by the club in years.
Erik ten Hag has overseen his development thus far with the Dutchman urging patience. "I think we have to keep it calm," he said. "You are very good here in England to push players and managers very high, and then you hammer them after one or two bad performances. I think we need to keep it very calm. He was [magnificent]. It was really so enjoyable to watch Kobbie at his age."
Mainoo is one of several young stars in the United squad who have been shining lights in what was otherwise a difficult year. Alejandro Garnacho is another of their prospects to have continued performing in what was an underwhelming campaign.
