Jim Duffy expects Mikey Johnston to leave Celtic alongside £2.5m powerhouse

The dust has settled on another trophy-winning season for Celtic.

It all started with Ange Postecoglou heading for the exit door and joining Tottenham after winning the Treble at Parkhead.

To the surprise of many, Brendan Rodgers returned to Celtic, and whilst there were many bumpy roads along the way, he delivered the Scottish Premiership title and returned just how he had previously left.

In less than a month, the 2024 summer transfer will open and many are going to be interested to see the road Celtic decide to go down.

Yes, there will be incomings, but this might be more about who does or doesn’t leave this summer.

Mikey Johnston, who spent the second half of the season on loan at West Brom, is one who probably already has his name written in the stars.

The Republic of Ireland star failed to help Albion earn promotion to the Premier League after they were beaten in the Championship play-off semi-final, but he still made an ‘unbelievable’ impact.

Jim Duffy is certain that Johnston will be gone by the end of the window, but he feels another one will follow him out, as he told Clyde1 Superscoreboard.

Hyeongyu Oh was signed by Celtic for £2.5 million in January 2023, but Duffy thinks ‘he will go’ following the success of Adam Idah, even though he has since returned to Norwich City.

Hyeongyu Oh to leave Celtic?

“I think Forrest will definitely be there,” responded Duffy. “I think Yang will still be there. I think Oh will go and I think Mikey Johnston will go.”

Mark Wilson issued a sharp response by simply saying: “Agreed.”

Celtic’s striker issues

Kyogo Furuhashi has been king in Glasgow for a number of years, but his recent campaign was his poorest since being at the club.

He only scored 14 Premiership goals after netting 27 last term. But Kyogo did still get in a few goals against Rangers, like he always does.

But Rodgers has a big call to make. As it stands, Idah has gone back and that leaves him with Kyogo and Oh.

The South Korean powerhouse only scored five goals this season, but he only played 20 matches and last appeared in the league back in February. The writing is already on the wall for him, it seems!
