Jermain Defoe's Soccer Aid touch of class had Rangers fans all saying the same thing about the striker.

The former Light Blues forward called time on his playing career shortly after leaving Glasgow. He was snapped up by Steven Gerrard during his stint in charge in Govan. During his time north of the border he lifted the Scottish Premiership title and ended his stint with 32 goals and ten assists from just 74 outings.

He was back on the football pitch on Sunday night as part of the Soccer Aid charity match as an England XI took on the World XI at Stamford Bridge. In a classic Defoe moment he received the ball into feet before dancing around a couple of opponents and unleashing an unstoppable effort into the back of the net. Former Chelsea and England star Frank Lampard – on dugout duties – couldn't hide his joy as he showed his appreciation for the effort. The classy moment also caught the eye of a bunch of Rangers fans who had a clear message.

One Rangers supporter said: "I'd still have this guy on a one year playing sparingly when we need a spark in front of goal, and I'm not even kidding." Another posted: "Clement. Hope you're watching. Get him signed. He's still got it." One further fan wrote: "There's a Rangers shirt still with your name on it. Come back home."
