GIOVANNI VAN BRONCKHORST could be planning a sensational DOUBLE transfer raid on report club Rangers, according to reports.

The former Ibrox hero, who enjoyed a successful playing spell with the Light Blues before returning as manager to lead the team to the Europa League final and a Scottish Cup triumph, is now the main man at Besiktas.

Van Bronckhorst, 49, was appointed boss of the Turkish outfit last week - his first job since leaving Gers in November 2022.

He was linked with a comeback at another of his former clubs, Feyenoord, in the wake of Arne Slot's departure for Liverpool.

But he opted for a new challenge in Turkey and as he settles into the job he has drawn up a list of transfer targets - including Rangers captain James Tavernier.

The skipper is understood to be of interest to another former boss in Steven Gerrard, who is over in Saudi Arabia with Al-Ettifaq.

According to the Daily Mail (print edition), van Bronckhorst is also weighing up a move for midfielder Tom Lawrence.

Wales international Lawrence was signed by the Dutchman in the summer transfer window and had a strong start to his Rangers career.

He has since struggled with injuries and match fitness however and wasn't a regular starter towards the end of the season under Philippe Clement.

Lawrence played 32 times across all competitions for Gers in 2023-24 but missed out on the Scottish Cup, played just ten minutes in the semi-final and started only one game after the Premiership split.

It's also being said that Ipswich Town and Sheffield United are keen on the 30-year-old.

A move to Premier League new boys Ipswich would see Lawrence return to the club where he had a successful loan spell in the 2016-17 season.

Sheffield United have just been relegated to the Championship, a league in which Lawrence has scored 50 career goals.

He scored 11 times in his final season for Derby County in England's second tier in 2021-22.

Alongside Tavernier, Gerrard is said to be keen on taking defensive team mate Connor Goldson to the Middle East.
