Scotland legend Gordon Strachan is supporting England at the Euros.

Wee Gord, waving a St George’s Cross, revealed his backing for the Auld Enemy in a video posted on social media. The former Tartan Army player and manager said: “Like everybody else, I’m excited about the Euros about to start.

“I want to wish the lads the very best of luck - hope you score a bucketful of goals and, if you do, I’ll be going bonkers.

Strachan, who won 50 caps for Scotland, added: “Come on England, it’s coming home, Three Lions on the shirt, vindaloo, Southgate, all the best, hope you score plenty.”

The Three Lions are among the favourites to win this summer's Euro 2024 tournament and you can get your hands on the brand new Nike home and away kits before the first whistle.

One England supporter wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter: “That’s the team jinxed turn the bus around.” Meanwhile, Scotland fans called him "strange".

A Scots diehard added: “If that was a joke it was badly judged. You can keep Strachan if that’s his allegiance. England always did love her lackeys. Scotland? ... Not so much. Strachan? Oh dear Oh dear.”

Others suggested the 67-year-old - looking a little pink in the video - must have sunstroke, with one fan saying: "That's one sunstroke does to you." And another unimpressed Scot simply said: "What did I just watch?"

Ex-midfielder Strachan won multiple honours with Aberdeen, including the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1983, but spent a considerable part of his career south of the border, first at Manchester United, where he lifted the FA Cup, and then at Leeds, where he earned legendary status by captaining the side to the First Division title in 1992.

The former FWA Footballer of the Year went on to manage Coventry, Southampton and Middlesbrough, before returning north to win three league titles with Celtic, as well as leading the national team.

Since the stunt, Strachan has clarified that despite wanting England to score plenty, it's all for a good cause.

Each time Gareth Southgate’s team scores, Good Life+ will donate £1,000 to grassroots football in Scotland.

And Strachan said: “It looks like the video of me supporting England didn’t go down too well with you guys out there. Relax, keep the heid, I’m definitely not giving up the Tartan Army. Just the 90 caps as a manager and a player, by the way.

“Let’s make this absolutely clear: I want England to score goals. The reason being, my good friends at Good Life+ are donating £1,000 every time England score a goal, and it’s going towards grassroots football in Scotland. Consider it compensation.

“Come on England. I really hope you score a bucketful of goals, but I hope you score a lot more, too. Come on Scotland, we can boogie!”
