German legend Toni Kroos is calling time on his career after the latest European Championship tournament.

The Real Madrid midfielder signed off his club career with victory in the 2024 UEFA Champions League final, making him a joint-record six-time winner of the competition.

With a World Cup under his belt as well as several league titles and domestic cups for Madrid and previously Bayern Munich, a fitting sign-off would be to finally get his hands on the Euros title.

Germany kicked off Euro 2024 in style with an emphatic 5-1 win over Scotland in the opening game. Kroos was excellent, completing 101/102 passes as he dominated the midfield.

With Euro 2024 being held in his native Germany, could the fairytale basically be writing itself?

Toni Kroos has represented Germany at the Euros on three previous occasions, with Euro 2024 set to be his fourth and final tournament before hanging up his boots.

He first featured in 2012 and was again selected for the 2016 tournament.

Euro 2020 was set to be his last after announcing he would be retiring from the international game.

However, he opted to return to international football in March and is expected to feature at Euro 2024 in his home country as a final swansong to a glittering career.

Barring a change of heart, Toni Kroos' last match as a professional footballer will be for Germany at Euro 2024 after he announced his retirement from the sport earlier this year.

Kroos had previously retired from international football following Euro 2020 but returned to the fold at the start of 2024.

Despite playing an integral role in Germany’s 2014 World Cup win, Kroos has never won the Euros with his country.

In 2012, he was part of the Germany team that reached the semi-finals where they were beaten by Italy.

Kroos again suffered semi-final heartbreak four years later as Germany went out to hosts France.

He was, however, named in the team of the tournament for his performances by way of consolation.  

Germany and Kroos suffered a round of 16 exit in 2021 when they were beaten 2-0 by England.

Of his 17 international goals for Germany, none have come at a European Championship tournament.

He has, however, scored in qualifying for both Euro 2016 and 2020.
