Nuri Sahin named new Borussia Dortmund manager following Edin Terzic departure - ‘A great honour’

Borussia Dortmund have named Nuri Sahin as their new head coach after the departure of Edin Terzic.

Terzic and Dortmund parted ways on Thursday, less than two weeks after the German club lost 2-0 to Real Madrid in the final of the UEFA Champions League.

Sahin, 35, is a former Dortmund midfielder and had been an assistant coach to Terzic before inheriting the top job following talks with the club.

“It is a great honour for me to be the coach of Borussia Dortmund,” Sahin said. “I would like to thank everyone in charge at the club for the trust they have placed in me. I am really looking forward to my job at BVB.

“From day one, we will do everything we can with a lot of energy and great passion to achieve the maximum possible success.”

Sahin began his playing career with Dortmund’s reserves before making his Bundesliga debut in 2005 at the age of 16.

The midfielder went onto make 274 appearances across several stints with Dortmund, scoring 26 goals and winning the Bundesliga in that time.

He also enjoyed spells with Real Madrid and Liverpool before retiring while at Turkish club Antalyaspor to become the head coach in 2021.

He left Antalyaspor at the end of 2023 and was appointed by Dortmund as an assistant coach just days later.

He has worked hard over the past few years to prepare for a coaching career, will take on his new role with great dedication and will continue to develop our team.

“As former team-mates, we will work together with trust and ambition. Nuri knows the club, its employees and the BVB DNA both as a player and as an assistant coach. We are convinced that Nuri is the right coach for us.”
