Newcastle United and Premier League icon Alan Shearer paid a heartfelt tribute to Arsenal legend Kevin Campbell following his death on Saturday.
Campbell, 54, died after a short illness. Announcing the news on Saturday morning, an Arsenal statement read: "We are devastated to learn that our former striker Kevin Campbell has died after a short illness.
"Kevin was adored by everyone at the club. All of us are thinking of his friends and family at this difficult time.
"Rest in peace, Kevin." Campbell, who also featured for Everton, Nottingham Forest and Leicester City, was a popular figure in the football community with tributes being paid from across football. His former strike partner Ian Wright said on ITV Sport: "I can't really go to deep into it because it is very fresh, I only heard about it this morning.
"Obviously my best wishes and my condolences go to his family. It is too soon for me to talk about as every time I do I start to well up.
"He meant the whole world to a lot of people, especially myself." Prior to BBC Sport's coverage of Italy vs Albania at Euro 2024, Gary Lineker began the broadcast by saying: "Everyone at Match of the Day would just like to send their condolences to the friends of family of Kevin Campbell, who died today at the age of 54."

Shearer added: "I was lucky enough to play with him in the U21s and work with him on bits on TV over the years. He had an infectious personality and a great character and you can see with the outpouring of grief today how much he will be missed so we are sending our condolences to his family and friends."
