Ashley Young confirms decision on Everton future as he provides update on contract talks

Ashley Young has told talkSPORT he’s very close to signing a new Everton deal.
The former England defender has been with the Toffees since last summer, signing as a free agent on a one-year contract with an option for a further 12 months.
In May, the club confirmed Young had been offered a new one-year contract.
Now, the ex-Aston Villa star has confirmed the process is nearly complete.
“We’re close to everything being resolved,” he told talkSPORT’s Breakfast show. “There’s been talks over the summer.
“It’s just about getting the fine details sorted now and I’ll sign that contract.”
The former Manchester United left-back has gone on to make 34 appearances for the Merseyside outfit, netting once.
He helped steer Everton away from relegation, with Sean Dyche’s side facing an uphill battle after being docked a total of eight points for breaking Profitability and Sustainability Rules.
The Toffees finished the season in 15th, four points clear of the relegation zone.
Last week, talkSPORT reported Everton owner Farhad Moshiri had accepted an offer from Roma owner Dan Friedkin for the club.
That came after months of uncertainty over who would be the club's new owners would be, including the ill-fated takeover attempt by 777 Partners.
Meanwhile, Young, now 38, looks set to continue his spell at Goodison Park.
He began his career with Watford after coming through the Hornets’ academy in 2003.
The defender then moved on to Aston Villa in 2007, before making the most appearances of his career (261) at Manchester United.
Young won the Red Devils’ most recent Premier League trophy in 2013, as well as the FA Cup in 2016 and the Europa League in 2017.
Following his departure from Old Trafford in 2020, Young has played for Inter Milan, returned to Villa and will now continue his 21-year long senior career with Everton.
Young also earned 39 caps with England from 2007 to 2017 and is part of talkSPORT’s coverage for this summer’s European Championship.
