Premier League cult hero Landon Donovan has joked he was told his hair transplant wouldn't show up on TV.

Donovan, 42, was covering Euro 2024 stateside, when an image of his hair sent him viral on social media. Football fans spotted the haircut, which appeared to be longer on the sides than the back and the top.

However, his former LA Galaxy teammate has now shed some light on the unorthodox haircut. In the messages, Donovan revealed that he underwent a hair transplant procedure just two weeks before the tournament.

“LD check Twitter asap and probably fire your barber,” Magee said to Donovan, who retired in 2019. Donovan responded with three face-palm emojis and said: “Where were you seven hours ago? Had a hair transplant procedure two weeks ago and was told it wouldn’t show up on camera.”

Magee referenced the former Barcelona and Mexico defender Rafael Marquez, who has also undergone the procedure in the past. He said: "Who told you that, Rafa Marquez?”
