CHARLOTTE FC broke their transfer record when they signed Liel Abada from Celtic for $8million (around £6.25million) in January.

The Israeli winger, 22, also became their highest ever paid player as former Aston Villa, Norwich City and Leicester City manager Dean Smith put his faith in him

That's according to a new report in the USA which claims he is being paid FIVE times more than former Rangers rival and now team-mate Scott Arfield who made the move across the pond last summer.

Abada was a fan favourite at Celtic having regularly got on the score-sheet against the Light Blues during his two-and-a-half year stint in Glasgow.

Then he reunited with Arfield in North Carolina after going head-to-head with the midfielder at Ibrox and Parkhead.

He decided to part ways with the Hoops after not featuring for weeks due to personal concerns over the ongoing conflict in his homeland.

But Abada now seems to be in a better pace over in the States and now finds himself back playing again - and even scored two against his old team-mate Giorgos Giakoumakis' former side Atlanta in February.

And it's easy to see why he's enjoying his time in the MLS after discovering the mammoth salary he is earning over there.

According to US media outlet, The Herald, Abada is earning €2.3million (£1.8million) per year - the highest the club has ever spent on a player.

However, he could pocket even more as it's suggested his salary could rise to almost $2.5m (£1.97million) after bonuses.

In comparison, Arfield rakes in £354k, whereas Poland Euro 2024 striker takes home £1.77million.

Speaking after his exit from the Hoops was confirmed, Abada revealed he never planned to leave the club and thanked everyone for their "unwavering support" during a period which was a "personal challenge".
