Tottenham are hoping to tempt newly-promoted Southampton into handing over Carlos Alcaraz this summer in a swap deal.
The Argentine midfielder joined the Saints from Racing Club in January 2023 and has scored eight goals in 47 appearances.
He spent the second half of last season on loan at Juventus, contributing one assist in 12 matches.
Southampton value the player around £30m and Spurs hope sending a player the other way will be a solution.
The £10m-rated centre-back is set to be offloaded this summer and could be used in a deal for Alcaraz, according to The Sun.

Alcaraz is not the only player that Ange Postecoglou's side is interested in.
Spurs and Manchester United are both eyeing up a move for Lille forward Jonathan David this summer, according to reports.
David, who has just one year left on his contract in Ligue 1, is available for transfer and United and Spurs are among the clubs monitoring his situation.

According to Sky Sports, no formal contact has been made over the in-demand frontman but he is believed to have been shortlisted by a host of sides.
David scored 26 goals across all competitions last season, including 19 in Ligue 1, and has also cemented his spot as a regular for Canada on the international stage.
Since moving to Lille from Belgian side Gent, David has scored 84 goals in total.
