England head into their final match group stage match at Euro 2024 knowing that a win against Slovenia would see them safely through to the knockout stage as group winners, which would mean playing one of the best third placed teams in the Round of 16.
Gareth Southgate's side have picked up four points from their two matches in Germany so far, kicking off proceedings with a 1-0 win over Serbia in Gelsenkirchen before drawing 1-1 with Denmark in Frankfurt last Thursday.
The result leaves the Three Lions two points clear at the top of the Group C table, and guaranteed a place in the top three which leaves them all but certain of a place in the Round of 16 regardless of Tuesday's result.
England have won only two of their last seven matches in all competitions, and will be desperate to add to that tally in Cologne in a bid to give them an easier route into the quarter finals of Euro 2024.
Slovenia make the trip to Cologne having picked up 1-1 draws in each of their opening two matches of the tournament, firstly against Denmark before conceding a 95th minute equaliser against Serbia last Thursday.
Matjaz Kek's side are tied on points and goal difference and on head-to-head record with Denmark, which leaves themselves in a position where provided they better the result of the Danes, they will see themselves qualify for the knockout stage of a major competition for the first time in their history.
A win would definitely see the Slovenians through, though anything less would leave them needing a favour from the other match in the group which sees Denmark take on Serbia in Munich.
England have won five of their six previous matches against Slovenia, with the other ending in a draw, the most recent meeting of which came in a 2018 World Cup qualifier at Wembley, in which Harry Kane scored the only goal of the game in the 94th minute.
