SEAD HAKSABANOVIC is reportedly set to finally cut ties with Celtic and move on with his career this summer.

The Montenegro international, 25, spent last season on loan at Stoke City after being told he was free to leave the club by Brendan Rodgers 12 months ago.

But there was no option to buy written into the agreement with the English club, so he returned to Parkhead when his loan deal expired.

Haksabanovic joined Celtic for around £1million from Russian outfit Rubin Kazan in 2022 and is still under contract with the Hoops until 2027.

But the winger is far down the pecking order in Rodgers' plans so he is now set to depart on a permanent basis.

Reports in April suggested the Parkhead club were prepared to let the star leave for £2.2million, making a healthy profit on the outcast.

And while the fee is currently unknown, it looks like the Scottish champions have now agreed a deal to let him move on.

That's according to Swedish outlet Fotboll Direkt - who claim the 25-year-old WILL leave the Hoops after securing a move to Malmo.

Born in Sweden, Haksabanovic chose to represent Montenegro at international level despite playing regularly for the wedish youth teams.

He came through the youth ranks at Halmstads BK, before spending time at IFK Norrkoping and Djurgardens.

Now it's looking increasingly likely that he will return to his nation of birth to play for the country's champions, who will start their qualifying campaign for the Champions League later this month.

Last year, Haksabanovic hinted that things weren't all well between him and his manager.

After featuring in the shock defeat at Rugby Park in August, he said: "If they don't see your value maybe you're not at the right place".

The post quickly gained traction and was liked by more than 2000 of his followers, including fellow Parkhead fringe man Rocco Vata.
