Ricardo Carvalho won the Euros alongside Cristiano Ronaldo eight years ago and now the legendary centre-back is coaching him.
The former Chelsea and Real Madrid defender is a Portugal icon, so much so that he is still involved in the national team.
At Euro 2024, Carvalho has been seen regularly in the dugout as A Selecao reached the knockout stages by winning their group.
And ahead of their last-16 clash against Slovenia, talkSPORT.com has taken a look at exactly what his role is for his country…
What is Carvalho’s role at Euro 2024?
Carvalho is an assistant manager for Portugal.
He works underneath boss Roberto Martinez and alongside ex-Chelsea and Bayern Munich assistant Anthony Barry.

Soon after Martinez was appointed manager in January 2023, he started to put together his backroom staff.
Barry came in first in February 2023 before Carvalho joined the team a month later.
This role is only his second in coaching since retiring from football six years ago.
He was previously assistant manager to Andre Villas Boas at Ligue 1 side Marseille.

Carvalho is a valuable asset to Portugal’s staff and his wealth of experience of playing the game will be massively helping the squad.
The 46-year-old made 89 appearances for A Selecao with his international career spanning from 2003 to 2016.
That makes him the 11th most-capped Portugal player of all time.
He is now in Germany with his country on the sidelines as they look to repeat the feat that he pulled off with the team on the pitch back in 2016.
Portugal won the Euros eight years ago and at 38, Carvalho was one of the players to help win their first-ever major international title.
He will be hoping to touch some silverware again this year with his side now entering the knockout stages of the tournament.
