‘What date is the Spurs game?’ – Wrexham fans love tweet when drawn against ‘rivals’ Sheffield United

Wrexham's supporters have an extra reason to look forward to the new campaign following their Carabao Cup first round draw.

The Welsh side have been drawn at Sheffield United in the competition's first round, starting on the week of August 12.

Of course the clash, while not classed as a typical derby, will take on added significance following their fiery FA Cup fourth round encounter just 18 months ago.

Having played out a thrilling 3-3 draw in Wales, Wrexham shared an image that mentioned Tottenham - the side who the winner was drawn to face in the fifth round - with a number of their players doing Heung-min Son's famous camera celebration.

So when the return leg came around and the Blades won 3-1 at Bramall Lane, Billy Sharp made his feelings clear in the media.

Sharp told ITV: “I think they’ve been disrespectful with a few things before the game, thinking they were already through.

"I’m glad we’ve beat them. They’re doing well in their league, we’re doing well in ours, but I wasn’t happy with a few of their players.

“I wasn’t happy with the way they’ve been as a club before the game, eyeing up Spurs. They’ve not even beat us.”

Sharp reportedly shouted 'stick that up your documentary's a***' as he walked down the tunnel at Bramall Lane.

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney acknowledged the incident in their Welcome To Wrexham documentary, with Reynolds saying: "It was really interesting. It was psychology 1 on 1. It was like 'oh we own you right now.' You're a Championship team, and second place in the Championship, you guys are amazing.

"This guy, we just got under his skin. It was so, so wonderful to see that we got under that guy's skin the way he did."

McElhenney also seems to have been enjoying the clash with Sharp. "We were living rent free in that motherf*cker's brain".

With their Carabao Cup first round tie being confirmed, Wrexham confirmed the new on X before sharing the post with an eyes emoji.

But looking in the comments, it's clear that fans are looking forward to reigniting their old feud.

One fan wrote: "What date is the Spurs game once we breeze past these?"

Another said: "Who we got in the second round?"

"Would have been nice to have got a big club but easy game to get into the next round," wrote a third supporter.

A fourth fan wrote: "Now remember no sonny celebration pics to be posted pre hand, while another wrote: "Get those cameras ready, fellas."

Wrexham's Carabao Cup first round clash will come days after they start their League One campaign where Phil Parkinson's side will face eight ex-Premier League sides throughout the campaign.
