Why N’Golo Kante can extend stunning all-time unbeaten record against Portugal despite defeat to Switzerland at Euro 2020

N'Golo Kante is an all-time record holder after playing in France's win over Belgium, and he'll be eager to extend it against Portugal.
The Frenchman now holds the longest unbeaten run in European Championship history, surpassing the mark achieved by Spain legend Xavi.
His involvement in Les Bleus' 1-0 victory over the Red Devils ensured it was 12 consecutive Euro games without defeat for Kante.
The former Chelsea midfielder was level with Xavi on 11, but he's now ahead of him and could further extend that record when France take on Portugal in the quarter-finals, live on talkSPORT.
The 33-year-old played four matches at Euro 2016, but he was on the bench for the final, meaning the defeat to Cristiano Ronaldo and co isn't on his record.
At Euro 2024, Kante has again featured in every game for France, and they are yet to lose.

However, at Euro 2020, Les Bleus were knocked out on penalties by Switzerland after a 3-3 draw.
Kante played the full match, but games that go to extra time and penalties are counted as draws, ensuring Kante is still officially 'unbeaten'.
But as well as this record at the European Championship, it is now 13 wins and six draws at major tournaments for Kante.
In the space of 90 minutes, he's yet to lose a game for Les Bleus at both the World Cup and Euros.

And, if they are to make it through to another semi-final, France will need the defensive midfielder to be at his best.
Speaking after his inclusion in the squad, Didier Deschamps said: "He played a full season, albeit not in a European league, as he is in Saudi Arabia.
"He's back to full fitness. With his experience, I'm convinced that the French team will be stronger with N'Golo Kante."
