What Celtic fans truly discover on madcap night of 10 goals as Holm, Oh, Lawal, Turley and Johnston itch to impress

Kyogo is still Celtic’s star man as the Hoops looked to warm up for next week’s trip to the United States.

Celtic may have been lukewarm in the transfer market so far but at least their main man has been red hot in pre-season.

Kyogo Furuhashi hit a hat-trick as the Hoops saw off Queen’s Park to make it four goals in two friendlies so far. The chase for Adam Idah may be a hot topic but Kyogo is still Celtic’s star man as the Hoops looked to warm up for next week’s trip to the United States.

The Celtic international posse were still under wraps against the Spiders but Matt O’Riley got his first runout of pre-season along with a raft of fringe men. Whether the in-demand playmaker is still around for the big kick-off remains to be seen but he hit the ground running with a superb controlled finish to make it 3-2 towards the end of an entertaining first half. Celts got off to a stormer when Kyogo slotted an opener in just six minutes.

The Japanese ace stuck again when he diverted Yuki Kobayashi’s volleyed effort in for a second. But by that point Callum Davidson’s men had come from behind to take the lead. Ruari Paton gave Scott Bain with no chance when he latched on to Stephen Welsh’s clearance to belt home a leveller from 20 yards. Dom Thomas struck another stunner into the bottom corner from outside the box. It was competitive stuff, with the likes of Odin Thiago Holm out to make an impression.

There was also a return for Mikey Johnston after his sensational loan spell at West Brom last term, despite interest from the Baggies and a host of other Championship clubs. The commanding figure of Bosun Lawal got another run out and lesser seen keeper Benji Siegrist came out for the second period. Kyogo sealed his hat-trick with a trademark offside-busting run and cool finish before he departed the scene on the hour. Oh Hyeun-gyu made it five with a superb low finish but Luis Longridge dinked Siegrist to pull one back. Young gun Francis Turley drilled in from Oh’s cut-back for number six but the Spiders refused to go quietly as Tyrece McDonnell bundled in late on.
