Aston Villa are set to complete the £50m signing of Amadou Onana from Everton which comes as a blow to Manchester United's pursuit of Jarrad Branthwaite.

Barring a huge bid from United, Branthwaite likely won't be heading to Old Trafford this summer after the Blues agreed to the sale of Onana instead. They had valued Onana from £60m to £70m, but preferred to part with Onana even for a reduced price.

The deal suits all parties because Villa can unlock the midfielder's best attributes playing under Unai Emery, while he also goes some way to fixing one of their biggest issues from last season. Without Tyrone Mings, Villa lacked height and recorded the second-lowest aerial duel success rate in the Premier League.

Onana, however, towers above his opponents and won over 74 per cent of his aerial duels, which was the fourth-most in the division and more than any other midfielder in Europe's top five leagues. His pass completion was also higher than John McGinn, Youri Tielemans and Ross Barkley.

The Belgian plays alongside Tielemans for his national team and has made 17 appearances for the Red Devils. At the age of 22, Onana has already played more than 70 games for Everton and featured 37 times in all competitions last term.

On the latest episode of Claret & Blue, John Townley and Dan Rolinson discussed Onana's imminent move to Villa Park. You can watch it here or below...
