Spain star Rodri laid claim to Gibraltar during a sing-song to celebrate his sides Euro 2024 victory in Germany.

The Manchester City midfielder lifted the trophy in Germany after Spain saw off England in the showpiece final but there was no time for rest for the star named player of the tournament at Euro 2024 – and who Spain manager Luis de la Fuente has declared should win the Ballon d’Or after his tournament showing – as the party got back underway in Madrid following the return of the heroes. During the wild scenes, Rodri grabbed the microphone as Alvaro Morata displayed the trophy to the gathered crowd and started singing “It’s Spanish, Gibraltar is Spanish” – in reference to the British overseas territory.

The status of the area has long been a sensitive political issue and Morata attempted to play down the comments after the end of Rodri's sing-a-long – reminding him that he plays in the English Premier League. Taking back the microphone, the Atletico Madrid frontman said: "Hey Buddy, you play in England." Rodri clapped back: "I do not care."
