Everton want Jesper Lindstrom transfer as winger search takes new twist

Denmark international Jesper Lindstrom is on the club's radar as work continues to add options going forward

Everton are exploring a move for Jesper Lindstrom. The attacking midfielder, who can play on both wings, signed for Napoli in a big money deal from Eintracht Frankfurt last summer.

But 12 months on there is a belief he could be available and the Blues’ interest is genuine as director of football Kevin Thelwell pursues a fourth signing of the summer transfer window.

Since Iliman Ndiaye arrived from Marseille at the start of July, attention has turned to boosting Sean Dyche’s options out wide. The return of Jack Harrison on a new loan from Leeds United was secured earlier in the summer, but the sale of Lewis Dobbin and expiration of Arnaut Danjuma’s loan deal has left Dyche with just Harrison, Dwight McNeil and potentially the veteran Ashley Young as his natural, senior wide options.

Work to address that has been ongoing for weeks with deals for Newcastle United’s Yankuba Minteh and Hull City’s Jaden Philogene pursued only for talks to fall through. Both players have agreed deals elsewhere. The club has a longstanding interest in 20-year-old winger Wilfried Gnonto but, as reported by the ECHO earlier this week, the Leeds starlet is just one of a list of players being considered. That list includes Lindstrom, who struggled in his debut season in Serie A, failing to register a goal or an assist.

However, he started just twice in a chaotic season as Napoli were unable to mount an effective defence of their title and finished tenth. The previous seasons had seen the 24-year-old excel in Germany, starting in the final as his side won the Europa League in May 2022.

Should Everton’s pursuit of Lindstrom prove successful he would become the fourth recruit of a summer that has already seen the arrivals of Ndiaye, Harrison and midfielder Tim Iroegbunam. Dobbin and Ben Godfrey have been sold while Amadou Onana is on the cusp of a move to Aston Villa for around £50m.
