Ex-Rangers star is ‘top choice’ to join Jason Cummings as cash-rich Indian club look to bolster attacking options

IT'S just over a year since Jason Cummings signed a life-changing megabucks deal to move to India.
And he could be about to be joined by another former Rangers striker.
SPFL cult hero Cummings, 28, left Scottish football for Australia in January 2022 and hasn't looked back.
Finding a prolific streak, he became a Central Coast Mariners hero as he fired the club to the A-League Championship in 2023.
After moving Down Under, Cummings also received a call-up to the Australia national team.
Despite being born in Edinburgh and being capped by Scotland twice, the former Hibs man switched allegiance and ended up being picked for the 2022 World Cup.
After firing the Mariners to title glory - and scoring 30 goals in 49 league appearances during a stunning 18-month spell - Cummings moved on.
He joined Indian Super League club Mohan Bagan Super Giant in June last year.
The transfer made him the highest paid player in India.
Cummings continued his good form in front of goal and he won yet another league title.
Since the season ended in May, Cummings has been enjoying what the world has to offer.
Jetting around the globe with stunning partner Hannah, he's been spotted in locations such as Las Vegas, Miami and Rome in recent weeks.
One of Cummings' strike partners last season was Albania striker Armando Sadiku.
But he's been touted for a move this summer and Mohun Bagan have reportedly lined up a former Rangers striker to replace him.
According to Indian outlet MyKhel, Greg Stewart has emerged as their leading choice as they look to land a new forward.
Stewart, 34, is a free agent after his short term deal at Kilmarnock expired at the end of last season.
The former Dundee, Birmingham and Aberdeen man is no stranger to football in India.
After a two-year spell with Rangers - in which he won the Scottish Premiership in 2021 - he headed for the country.
He enjoyed a spell with Jamshedpur between 2021 and 2022 and won the league's 'Hero of the League' award, given to the best player in the competition.
Stewart also became a league champion with the club.
He the moved on to Mumbai City on a two-year deal, where he won the league title once again.
Stewart returned to Scotland with Killie in January this year, making 11 appearances in all competitions.
But he's now a free agent once again and could be about to join his third club in India.
The report in India claims Stewart is one of three players being considered by Mohun Bagan.
Sadiku's departure looks likely following the club's signing of another former SPFL striker.
Ex-Hibs man Jamie Maclaren signed a three-year deal with the club back in May and Stewart could be next to join their familiar looking frontline.
