Willum Willumsson shares reason for joining Birmingham City in first interview

Willum Willumsson has realised a childhood dream by signing for Birmingham City.

The Icelandic midfielder always intended to play in England and Blues have given him the opportunity to achieve his goal. Blues announced the signing of Willumsson from Go Ahead Eagles on Friday evening.


Willussom is Blues’ sixth signing of the summer and the second from the Dutch Eredivisie. The 25-year-old has scored 15 goals in two seasons with Go Ahead Eagles.


Discussing his move to St Andrew’s with Blues TV, Willumsson said: "England is like the Mecca of football, it was always a dream for me to play here. When I heard that there was interest from Birmingham, I thought to myself 'yeah, this is the time, this is the next step.'

"I think Birmingham has a very interesting project going, and I felt like it was time for something new so it was a no-brainer. I am really excited, this is a huge club and I am really happy to be here!"

Willumsson has signed a four-year contract with Blues and could make his first appearance in Saturday’s friendly at Shrewsbury Town.
