Venezuelan offside decision leaves fans baffled as it's claimed drawn-on lines 'CAN'T be real' - with one line ending up in a block of flats next to the pitch!

  • Puerto Cabello were taking on Portuguesa in the teams' second games of season
  • One player thought he had given his side the lead with just minutes remaining
  • Goal was ruled out for offside, despite a bizzarely-drawn line suggesting error

Fans have been left in hysterics by some hilariously-drawn VAR lines in the Venezuela First Division.

In just their second games of the season, last year's runners-up in the league, Puerto Cabello, were taking on the team that finished third, Portuguesa, in a bid to gain early ground in the league standings.

With the game finely poised, it had looked as though the hosts had taken the lead when one of their players poked in from a neat cross.

Celebrations were cut short, however, with the linesman immediately flagging for offside and the forward left with his head in his hands.

In the analysis, what appeared to be the TV station drew their own VAR line, which sent fans crazy on social media as they mocked the technology.

Footage showed a disproportioned VAR line adjudging the goal scorer to have been onside, despite it being clear that they were at least a few yards in front of the defener the line had been drawn against.

The line had appeared to be in-line with the 18-yard box originally, but had not been adjusted to match the camera angle's allignment with the rest of the pitch.

The goal did not stand, however, and the game finished 0-0 after a cagey affair.

'Sometimes it feels like every VAR ref is using that technology,' one fan posted on X, formerly Twitter, in response.

Another wrote: 'Average Copa America VAR review,' while a third added: 'There’s no way,' accompanied by a crying emoji.

The goal scorer was left in disbelief by the call, though, ultimately, the right decision was made despite the bizarre VAR line.

It is believed that the line was drawn by the broadcast station, having no impact on the game, with the on-field offside decision standing.
