Enzo Maresca explains why Trevoh Chalobah has been left off US tour squad

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has given his thoughts on the decision to leave out defender Trevoh Chalobah.

Since former Leicester City manager Enzo Maresca was appointed as manager of Chelsea this summer, the Blues have certainly been busy in the transfer market.

Chelsea signed one of Maresca’s key players for Leicester in Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall earlier this month and have already made multiple key additions to the team which include defender Tosin Adarabioyo and exciting winger Willian Estevao, who will join in 2025.

The signing of former Fulham defender Adarabioyo has led to questions around the future of Trevoh Chalobah and Maresca has responded to that decision.

Maresca responds to Chalobah decision

HITC had reported that Chelsea are keen to sell Chalobah this summer and are even prepared to omit the Englishman from their Premier League squad to get him out.

Chalobah had over half of the teams in the Premier League keen on him but he showed a reticence to depart Stamford Bridge which put interested parties off.

Now, three or four Premier League sides are keen and the Italian manager has explained his decision to omit the English defender from his squad for the pre-season tour of the United States.

He said, as per Fabrizio Romano on X: “It’s always sad to leave a player out… but I’m here to take decisions”.

“We have Wes Fofana, Disasi, Tosin there. Also, we have Acheapong who’s doing fantastic”.

Leaving out a player of Chalobah’s quality is certainly an interesting decision but it appears the Blues are going to be ruthless with their decisions this summer.

Chalobah could be the first of many names out of Chelsea this summer

Losing Chalobah would be understandable considering the amount of options that the club have in that role.

HITC have previously reported that Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher is up for sale and is attracting interest from Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur.

As well as Chalobah, and potentially Gallagher sources have told HITC that Cesare Casadei and David Datro Fofana have been told that they can leave on permanent deals.
