Kenny Dalglish reckons there is a big "if" around Rangers chances of landing a transfer free for Todd Cantwell as the playmaker heads for the exit door.

And the Celtic hero questioned whether Philippe Clement will be able to fill the void left by James Tavenier should he be allowed to leave the club amid the major Ibrox clearout. The Rangers boss declared Cantwell was looking for a new "adventure" and had been dropped to the B team until an exit route is found following a transfer request - as the playmaker looks set to follow first-team regulars like Connor Goldson, John Lundstram and Borna Barisic out of the door this summer.

Skipper Tavernier has been touted as a target for Trabzonspor with former boss Gio van Bronckhost also said to be keen to take him to Beskitas. However following the 4-4 draw with Union Berlin, Clement cooled talk over a potential exit for the skipper

And Dalglish reckons that the skipper "will not be easy to replace" should they Ibrox side cash-in to fund the Belgian's major overhaul. He also reckons it could be tough to get 'some sort of transfer fee" for Cantwell - which could lead the Scottish Premiership side to rip up his contract to free up wages.

Writing for the Sunday Post, he said: "Right now, it doesn't look like Philippe Clement has enough quality and experience to beat Celtic over 38 games. It looks as though James Tavernie r will be sold. He's has been a solid servant to Rangers for nine years and has scored over 100 goals for the club. He will not be easy to replace.

"There is also Todd Cantwell. If they can get some sort of transfer fee for Todd it will help the manager fund his own ideas. But, for all the negativity, things can change and Rangers need to battle their way through this.

"Philippe has a job to do and he needs to make sure his players are ready for the challenge August will bring: The thought of trips to Hearts and Celtic and a Champions League qualifier against Dynamo Kiev will seem daunting. They need to be up for it.

"They also need to remember they won the League Cup last season and they need to build on winning silverware. But they face a strong Celtic side and we would all expect the Parkhead squad to be even more powerful by the time the transfer window shuts next month."
