Watch 'terrible' Kyle Lafferty red card spark apoplexy as ref experts fume over wild tackle

The striker was dismissed in a flash for the late tackle which left Talbot's Ross Clark writhing on the deck

Former Rangers and Kilmarnock striker Kyle Lafferty sparked Auchlnleck Talbot fury over the tackle which earned him a straight red card for Johnstone Burgh - as he was slammed by former top referees.

The striker was dismissed in a flash for the late tackle which left Talbot's Ross Clark writhing on the deck and led to their bench making a beeline for Lafferty. The 36-year-old was a second half substitute but headed for an early bath rather than finding a winner in the 1-1 draw. The forward claimed his innocence over the tackle but the referee was having none of it as the red was out seconds after Clark hit the deck.

Behind The Whistles podcast, run by ex professional referees Steve Conroy and Des Roache, tweeted: “Terrible way to attempt to challenge. Only he knows why he went in to it that way when it wasn’t required. He’s an experienced player and should know better.”

Lafferty signed for the Junior side after a brief stint with Linfield after leaving Kilmarnock shortly after being hit with a 10-game ban for a sectarian comment he was filmed making. And he has signed up for Burgh for a second season as he aims to be a key contributor after making a telling impact in his first campaign.
