Joe Gomez makes his mind up on Liverpool future after £45m transfer talks
Joe Gomez is the longest-serving current player in Liverpool's squad but questions had been asked about the England international defender's long-term future at Anfield
Liverpool defender Joe Gomez has no intention of leaving Anfield, despite suggestions he could move to Newcastle as part of a deal for Anthony Gordon.
Gomez, who joined Liverpool from Charlton in 2015, still has three years left on his deal at Anfield. Despite this, reports had suggested he might be allowed to leave in an effort to prompt Newcastle to part ways with his fellow England international Gordon.
Despite coming through the ranks at Everton, Gordon looked up to Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard when growing up. The Reds had entertained a £45m move when it looked as though Newcastle would need to sell to comply with financial fair play rules, but Eddie Howe's side ultimately found the money through other sales.
Gomez, according to The Times, remains committed to Liverpool. However, he isn't the only current squad member to have attracted summer interest.

New manager Arne Slot has been using a number of centre-back combinations during Liverpool's pre-season tour of the United States. One of the players to get minutes is Sepp van den Berg, who could be welcomed back into the fray after impressing on loan at Mainz.
Mainz remain keen to keep Van den Berg around, while Liverpool have also received transfer interest in attacking midfielder Fabio Carvalho. A £15m bid from Southampton for the Portuguese youngster has been knocked back.

Liverpool have won three games out of three in the US, and have a pair of friendlies at Anfield before the new season starts. Slot has yet to make a single addition to his squad, though Saturday's 3-0 victory over Manchester United will offer encouragement.
"Of course the results, that's where everybody is looking at," Slot said after the game. "But players stayed fit and they are able to perform in the way we want, so [a] high-intensity game. We saw some great goals during this tour, some great build-up situations and I see them working really, really hard not to concede.
"Like I said, today I think we gave away too many chances, United deserved more than a 3-0 loss. But it's also our quality that we do score our own chances."
