Birmingham City have made Luke Harris their ninth summer signing after striking a season-long loan deal with Fulham.

Harris is taking the Jay Stansfield route having enjoyed a successful stint with Exeter City in League One last term, scoring four times in 21 appearances, before making the move to St Andrew’s. He will form part of an exciting midfield which currently consists of Paik Seung-ho, Jordan James and Marc Leonard.

His first words will be music to the ears of manager Chris Davies and Blues fans: “I’m a team player, I’ll give everything every game and I like to score goals.”

Harris has guaranteed goals from midfield throughout his youth career and models his game on Frank Lampard – arguably English football’s finest goalscoring midfielder. An extract on Fulham’s website reads: “A likeable player, Luke models his game on Frank Lampard and has gained international recognition, being called up by England and Wales in the last two years.”

Harris has pledged his allegiances to Wales in recent years and currently represents their under-21 side, for whom he’s scored once in six caps. Harris is clearly highly-rated within Welsh circles having been called up to the senior side before his 19th birthday. He can’t be far away from a debut at this point.

Harris – who has made four Premier League appearances for Fulham including a 76-minute outing against Manchester City at The Etihad last year – really impressed on loan at Exeter last season and their manager Gary Caldwell wanted to re-sign him.

Speaking in April, Caldwell said: "He's had a big impact and I think potentially more time with us next year would be really helpful for has development because he's another player, like Stanno that we had from Fulham, that I can see playing for Fulham in years to come.

"So if we can help Fulham with that and help Luke with that development then we'd love to do so, because he is a great lad and he is a player that we know the players and the staff all love working with."

They were unsuccessful in their pursuit and Harris will now play against the Grecians in Blues' colours this coming season.
