Philippe Clement reacts to Ianis Hagi free Rangers transfer claim as he reveals driving force behind Hampden move

There have been suggestions that the Romanian could be allowed to leave Ibrox for free

Philippe Clement insists it won't be his call whether Ianis Hagi leaves the Rangers for free.

The Romanian isn't part of the plans at Rangers and is a prime candidate to depart Ibrox before the end of the transfer window. Clement needs to raise funds to bankroll further additions, and a £3million return to Fiorentina looked to be close for the Romanian international.

But reports have since emerged that the Light Blues may be willing to let Hagi leave without a fee should he strike a deal with another club. And while Clement didn't rule that out, he stressed that the financial decisions are out of his hands and his main focus is deciding what type of players are needed rather than who is worth what. He said: "It's a rumour and not a rumour I've heard until now. But I'm not busy all this time with for what money is a player going out or coming in. Those things are not my job to do.

"It's my job to see what's necessary for the squad, what profiles we need and there are other people financially making decision. It's not me making that kind of decision."

Rangers make their Hampden bow as the home team in the league on Saturday when they host Motherwell at the national stadium. Clement believes the temporary move to Mount Florida due to building delays at Ibrox was the best solution all round. He admits he was involved in the process and that the impact on fans was just as important to him as what it mant for him and his player.

He added: "I've been involved in that, about choices to make. For me, it was the best scenario, not only for the players but also for the fans because we need to think about that. It was a priority that they could feel in a way at home, not travelling much more than it is now. It's not a big difference.

"It would have been different if it was at Murrayfield or a big stadium in England for example. There were also other possibilities but I'm really happy the club could find a solution with the federation. For everybody, it is the best solution.
