This year's Community Shield is set to be a huge clash between rivals Manchester United and Manchester City with the winners set to start this year's domestic calendar on the right foot.

Pep Guardiola's side will be hoping that they can take revenge over their bitter enemies following the dramatic 2-1 loss at Wembley Stadium earlier this year in the FA Cup Final. Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo proved to be the difference makers with their first-half goals enough to get Erik ten Hag's team over the line despite a late goal from Jeremy Doku sparking hopes of a comeback.

Fortunately for the Red Devils, this contest has been something of a curse for Guardiola's men in recent seasons, with this being their fourth consecutive attempt at trying to lift the shield with the Cityzens failing to win any of them while United have won the FA Community Shield 21 times, the most of any club in the competition's history.

Ten Hag has also strengthened his squad over the summer, with Man United signing Leny Yoro, who will miss this afternoon's game with an injury, and Bologna forward Joshua Zirkzee who starts on the bench. City are yet to add any big names after signing 20-year-old Savinho but did confirm that goalkeeper Ederson would be staying at the club after rumours he could leave for a mega-offer from a Saudi Pro League club.

Arsenal defeated Man City 4-1 on penalties after the two clubs played last year's final to a 1-1 draw, but will they suffer a similar fate this afternoon?

They might do, but only if the score is level after the 90 minutes as there will be no extra-time played in the Community Shield. This means that if the game is drawn after regulation, it will go straight to penalties to decide the winner.
