Bournemouth are not currently planning to push through with a move for Aston Villa striker Cameron Archer after selling Dominic Solanke to Tottenham in a deal worth £65m.

The Cherries have tracked Archer for some time and are understood to have held initial talks over a potential move earlier this summer. Although they still appreciate the Villa forward, Bournemouth are considering other options at this stage.

Archer returned to Bodymoor Heath in June following Sheffield United's relegation to the Championship. The 22-year-old was sold on a permanent basis, but there was an agreement that he'd go back to Villa if the Blades dropped out of the top-flight.

Archer made 28 appearances for Sheffield United last season and scored four goals, including at Villa Park in the 1-1 draw in December. He put the Blades ahead late on, before Nicolo Zaniolo levelled the game up in the 97th minute. He also scored against Everton, Wolves and Luton Town.

Unai Emery has given Archer the chance to impress in pre-season and he has scored three goals in six friendlies, missing only the defeat to RB Leipzig in the States as Villa were playing with 10 men after Diego Carlos' red card. Archer scored against Spartak Trnava, Columbus Crew and Athletic Bilbao.

Archer has made a total of 14 appearances for Villa since scoring a hat-trick on his first-team debut in the 6-0 win at Barrow in the Carabao Cup three years ago.

He had spells out on loan at Solihull Moors, Preston North End and Middlesbrough before his move to Bramall Lane last summer.
