Rangers clearout hits roadblock as Hagi performs costly transfer U turn amid scattergun Cantwell exit pitch

Philippe Clement is looking to move on some of his forgotten players

Misfit Ianis Hagi has reportedly declared he wants to remain at Rangers - and could be in line for a bumper payday if he starts another first-team game.

Philippe Clement has stated the Romanian will be departing the Light Blues before the transfer window closes after holding talks with the player's agent earlier in the summer. Following his return from Euro 2024, Hagi has been dropped to the B team - but has continued to catch the eye of fans. While the first-team was in Scottish Premiership action last weekend against Motherwell, the 25-year-old was busy netted a hat-trick in a bounce game against Derby County for the second string.

Sky Sports now report that the playmaker is "keen" to stay at Rangers for the upcoming campaign - but a contract clause could put an end to a recall. Hagi's current Ibrox deal could be playing into his absence from Clement's plans as it has been claimed that if the midfielder starts another match for for Rangers then a clause in his contract would see a wage increase triggered.

Rangers' rebel Todd Cantwell has also been linked with a move to Trabzonspor after submitting a transfer request. However, talks appear to have hit a roadblock.

The Englishman has been relegated to the B team while he searches for a new club - but Sky Sports note that the initial interest from Turkey has not been followed up by a "formal bid". Former Light Blues' captain Barry Ferguson reckons that the club will do everything to offload the 26-year-old - even if it means a loan departure.

Asked if he could see Cantwell being recalled, Ferguson told the Go Radio Football Show: "I can't see that. He has asked to move and I think over the next couple of weeks you will see him either go out on a permanent deal or maybe even a loan deal."
