Tim Sherwood predicts Tottenham Hotspur’s fate in top four race, ex-Spurs striker disagrees

Tottenham Hotspur are preparing for a second season under Ange Postecoglou and will be looking to build on a fifth-place finish.

Tottenham Hotspur fans have to wait a little longer than most Premier League fanbases as the start of the season looms.

Whilst Manchester United kick off against Fulham on Friday, Tottenham have to wait until Monday night to face Leicester City.

Spurs will be looking to get off to a fast start against the newly-promoted Foxes but fans will be expecting progress.

Tottenham missed out on a Champions League place last season but will have Europa League action to handle.

Ange Postecoglou will hope to kick on again and break into the top four and that push will truly begin on Monday.

Tim Sherwood’s Tottenham Hotspur prediction

Tottenham fell just two points short of fourth place in the Premier League table, so there is some encouragement from last season.

Two poor runs – one in November and one between April and May – ultimately cost Tottenham badly.

Postecoglou will be looking to avoid those runs this time around and Tim Sherwood has offered his prediction for Spurs.

Speaking on the Premier League’s official website, former Spurs player and manager Sherwood suggested that Tottenham will finish fourth this season.

Sherwood is backing Manchester City to win the league with Arsenal, Manchester United and Tottenham in the other Champions League spots.

That means Sherwood is backing Spurs to finish above Aston Villa, Chelsea, Liverpool and Newcastle United this season.

Tottenham fans would love that to come true but another former Tottenham player isn’t so encouraged.

Darren Bent believes that Arsenal, Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea will finish in the top four this term.

Bent noted that Tottenham will finish fifth again but ahead of Manchester United and Newcastle United.

Tottenham business summarised

Tottenham needed to re-tool after last season and have been calculated this summer.

Lucas Bergvall rejected Barcelona for Tottenham in February and has been able to start his Spurs career this summer.

Timo Werner is back on loan from RB Leipzig whilst Archie Gray has arrived from Leeds United and already been praised as an ‘incredibly talented’ player by Ben Davies.

South Korean wonderkid Yang Min-hyuk will arrive in January after agreeing to sign from Gangwon and Dominic Solanke has made a big move from Bournemouth.

Tottenham may still want new signings but more players may need to move on first.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has signed for Marseille whilst Emerson Royal has finally joined AC Milan after months of speculation.

Solanke may not be the end of the business for Tottenham this summer and more new faces may well bring Sherwood’s top four prediction true this summer.
