Connor Barron reveals Rangers summit to dissect Champions League failure as he prepares to face fan protests

The midfielder admitted Clement's squad thrashed out Dynamo Kyiv defeat in the aftermath

Connor Barron will block out the noise from any Rangers fan protests on Saturday and insists the players are hurting just as badly after their Champions League exit.

And he revealed that a dressing room summit took place between the players on Thursday morning to thrash out how they move on from that bitter European blow. The displaced punters made their feelings clear after a 2-0 defeat to Dynamo Kyiv at Hampden on Tuesday night, denying them a £40million Playoff shot at the newly revamped league stage against RB Salzburg.

Much of the fury was directed at ropey Italian ref Marco Guida, but not all of it as the necessary relocation to Mount Florida due to delays to Ibrox building works is already showing signs of having an affect on form. It’s back to the national stadium on Saturday to face St Johnstone in the first defence of the Premier Sports Cup Philippe Clement picked up last year. A number of fans are fed up already and are prepared to show it before kick-off against Craig Levein’s men.

“I think we could see that at the end of the game,” said Barron. “It hurt us all in the dressing room. The boys knew how much this meant, not only us as players, but to the fans and the club as well. For a lot of boys that have been here before, in that sort of situation as well. Everyone was picking each other up after the game.

"Football is a quick-moving sport and you've got to move on quickly with the game or else you're stuck thinking on things and you get caught down on it and can't go on performing the pitch as quickly as you need to.

"It's about us getting down to the training pitch now. We've had a meeting on Thursday morning to go over things and we'll move forward."

As for any protests, that’s not something Barron can afford to worry about. "You block out that and you focus on what you've got to do on the pitch as a player,” he said.

“Our job is to go out there and perform and get three points or get three to the next round or whatever the game may be and make sure the fans are happy at the end of the game.

"That's our aim. Every single time we step out on that pitch, our job won't change.

"I was well aware of how big this club was and how the expectations lie on you as a player. I really thrived under it. I liked being involved in it."

"Everyone's taken me in with open arms at the club. I feel really settled. I feel settled on the pitch as well, which is a good thing.

"The fans have been good to me so far. It's just about us repaying that and trying to pick up as many good results this season and trophies.

"It's all positive. Our supporters will always be with us. I think that's something they've shown over many years.

"Of course, as I said, our job doesn't change. We go out there and we win the game.

"That's what we want to do and that's our aim. It's a trophy we won last season. It's one we want to defend. We keep going.

"We're all on the same page inside the training facility. We all know where we want to go and what we want to do this season. We're all going to stick to that.

Since making the move from Aberdeen, the consensus is that barron has stepped up to the plate now he’s plying his trade in light blue.

It’s not something that has been said for every member of Clement’s squad, but the Scotland U21 international says that’s just how he always is: "I don't know how you can be perceived from the outside. I'm just that sort of player.

"That's how I like to play. I like to be demanding, to be a leader on the pitch.

"I like to control the game. That's just me. I'll never change. Wherever I go, whatever I do, whatever game it is.

"That's been me from a young boy right through to now. That won't change.”
