West Brom's Carlos Corberan on Marcelo Bielsa and Leeds United 'changing his life' ahead of big clash

The pair won promotion for the Yorkshire side during their tenure together.

Carlos Corberan faces off against a side who "changed his life" and gave him his chance in England but there is only one side he wants to win tomorrow. Corberan's first job here was with Leeds where he spent three years between 2017–2020 and saw them win promotion to the Premier League under legendary manager Marcelo Bielsa.

Reminiscing on his time there this week, Corberan said: "I enjoyed it a lot because they were my first club in England. I enjoyed my first year with the under 21s and after the possibility to move to the first team working with Marcelo Bielsa.

"In the first year, we played a play-off and the second we got promoted and won the Championship. For me, it was an experience that changed my life positively.

"Let's say that Leeds gave me the opportunity to come to this country and Bielsa gave me the opportunity for me to be more ready to be a head coach so the level of respect and appreciation I have needs to be there."

Asked if he had would have some banter with Bielsa before the game, he insisted: "No, I don't talk because we play Leeds or not! Probably I haven't spoken with him since the last game they (Uruguay) played in the Copa America."

On their opponents, he added: "They were a Premier League club for me last year, after three years in the Premier League they built a Premier League squad.

"I think they are one of the two best squads in the Championship. Analysing now, probably Burnley, Leeds and Sheffield United, and probably Luton after relegation but I don't think Leeds is at the back (of that group) in terms of quality players.

"When you see their game against Portsmouth (3-3), Portsmouth's accuracy was probably 100 per cent, Leeds' was 20 or 30.

"When this happens, sometimes they happen in football. In minute 92 they conceded a goal and after with just three it was enough to have the big chance (missed). Is that a Farke mistake? No way. They were too close.

"In the cup they had more of the ball and chances but suffered in transitions in the same level we suffered against Fleetwood. They were dominant but when you are dominant you need to be balanced and not unbalanced. I expect a stronger Leeds than the Leeds that was playing against Middlesbrough."
