Wycombe manager Matt Bloomfield is convinced Birmingham City will get promoted this season – and made comparisons to Ipswich Town.

Blues defeated Wycombe 3-2 at Adams Park on Saturday courtesy of goals from Alfie May, Luke Harris and Willum Willumsson. It was a first League One win for Chris Davies’ side, who have been tipped for the title by every bookmaker in the land.

Bloomfield was fulsome in his praise of Blues afterwards, saying: “Birmingham City are going to get promoted this season. Absolutely - they remind me of what Ipswich did a couple of years ago.

“They’ve gone and recruited an incredible young coach, they’re spending millions and millions of pounds on the backroom staff, on the playing staff, on everything, and there's no point spending all that money if you're not going to do it right. They're doing it right and properly.”

Comparisons with Ipswich are inevitable given both clubs are American-owned and Blues have made a Kieran McKenna type appointment in Davies. McKenna has become one of the most sought after managers in the game after leading the Tractor Boys to successive promotions from League One to the Premier League.

Davies has admitted Blues’ goal is to eventually reach the Premier League but it won’t be easy to achieve in two seasons. Blues are laser focussed on getting out of League One first.
