Man United next transfer after Facundo Pellistri sale decided as two players set for exit

Manchester United are expected to sanction the departures of two more players as they ramp up their summer transfer business

Victor Lindelof and Hannibal Mejbri could leave Manchester United this summer with both players entering the final year of their contracts.

United have been ruthless in the transfer window, sanctioning the sales of five stars to raise funds for those coming through the door. Alvaro Fernandez joined Benfica for £5.1million plus £2.6m in potential add-ons; Donny van de Beek moved to Girona for a fee that could rise to £3.8m and Villarreal paid £9.8m for Willy Kambwala.

Mason Greenwood was sold to Marseille for £26.9m and Aaron Wan-Bissaka completed a move to West Ham earlier in the week for £15m, which means a combined £63m could be raised from the five sales if all add-ons are activated. Facundo Pellistri is expected to be the next to depart United.

The 22-year-old is in talks over a move to Greek club Panathinaikos. Pellistri was absent from United's squad for their 1-0 win against Fulham on the opening day of the season and is understood to be wanted by Panathinaikos on a permanent transfer. He has less than one year remaining on his contract and an exit this summer is now likely.

After selling Pellistri, United are set to look to trying to offload Lindelof and Mejbri. United triggered the one-year extensions in both of their contracts last December, and they want to generate some cash for the out-of-favour duo, so neither leaves for free next summer. Lindelof and Mejbri were not included in the United squad for their victory over Fulham, although both were involved in pre-season.

Lindelof, 30, joined United from Benfica for £29.8m in June 2017, and he has since been a terrific servant over the course of his seven years at Old Trafford. In fact, the Sweden international has made 259 appearances for United, winning two major trophies. However, it does seem like his time in Manchester is coming to an end. If United are unable to sell Lindelof in this summer window, he will be allowed to negotiate terms with an overseas club from January and could leave on a free transfer.

As for Mejbri, he has never been able to cement a regular first-team spot at United and spent the second half of last season at Sevilla. The Tunisian had previously enjoyed a season-long loan spell at Birmingham, where he made 41 appearances in all competitions. But United are now prepared to sell the 21-year-old. Celtic and Rangers are both keen on signing the midfielder on a permanent deal.
