Joe Gomez is thought to be in contention to return to the Liverpool squad after it emerged the Aston Villa target was 'exploring his options' in the transfer market.

But amid the uncertainty, the fact that no transfer was imminently close was reiterated and the 27-year-old seems to be taking a professional approach to matters. According to Sky Sports, he has been training well and now could feature in Arne Slot's matchday squad for the first time when the Reds host Brentford on Sunday.
When a similar scenario unfolded in 2022, the England international ultimately decided to renew terms at Liverpool and signed a contract through to 2027.
Gomez - a versatile option with experience at the highest levels of the game - would add great depth to Emery's ranks, especially as Alex Moreno is set to complete a loan switch to Nottingham Forest whilst Diego Carlos remains on Fulham's radar in the final days of transfer activity.
