Arsenal icon Ray Parlour has been dubbed 'man of the people' for his take on the cringe Jermaine Jenas interview over his BBC firing.

Jenas, 41, who appears on The One Show and Match of the Day, was sacked by the BBC on Thursday (22 August) after complaints about his workplace conduct.

And speaking on talkSPORT, where Jenas also hosts a show, Parlour played Jenas' interview with the station from Thursday evening, when he addressed his firing - without saying anything of note. The Arsenal icon then joked: "I tell you what... what a waste of three minutes in the morning!

"I could have had a cup of tea, I'd have made you a nice cup of tea... what was the point of that? If he can't say anything he's got to say right at the start! Sorry I can't speak now.

"That's it. Interview's over... I'm sure the listeners are really riveted at home, listening to that!"

"Ray Parlour, voice of the people," one fan joked. While a second said: "Ray Parlour is a national treasure!"

"Classic Parlour! Cutting through the nonsense with a perfect one-liner. Couldn’t have summed it up better," a third posted. And another said: "Definitely won't be the last time...It's been on every news bulletin since late last night. They're even running the interview in-between..."

A fifth said: "I was laughing driving up the motorway. Natalie Sawyer didn’t no what to say!"

Speaking on talkSPORT, Jenas said: "Look, I can't really talk about it. I, as you can probably see, am not happy about it. But currently as it stands, I'm going to have to let the lawyers deal with it. There's two sides to every story, as we know so that's all I can say right now."

Jenas was then asked whether or not he sent inappropriate texts to a female member of staff at the One Show, to which the broadcaster replied: "Like I said, I'm not happy about this situation, I'm going to be speaking to my lawyers about it is all I can say right now."

He was then asked whether he could elaborate on the complaints, bluntly responding: "No."
