All Inter Miami fans were shocked once they realied Lionel Messi would probably miss out on many games simply by looking at his right ankle. A realization that came during the Copa America final where Argentina defeated Colombia without their biggest star. Initially, there was some hope that Messi could recover in due time for the Leagues Cup game that would take place in monterrey against Tigres. But Messi is no longer the young and resistant player he once was. In fact, age seems to have already taken a toll on Leo and he may still have that unique skill but he no longer has that same physical prowess. He has remained on the sidelines since July 14, that is nearly a month and a half ago but we finally know when he is returning.
When is Lionel Messi returning to activity?
These types of bone injuries usually take a long time to recover, even if they weren't a fracture. A spraned ankle can sometimes take months so Messi hasn't been more fortunate than other players before him. Manager Gerardo 'Tata' Martino offered an update on Leo's return to activity. We even have a tentative date now, but the final announcement will make some fans fume because it appears Messi will remain on the sidelines for much longer than previously expected. If he returns, it would be until the MLS Playoffs and the final regular season game won't be until October 19 against New England Revolution. When asked about Leo's return, 'Tata' said: "I wouldn't be able to give an approximate number of days that he returns to training but it is not a situation that is too far away."
Martino added: "There is a part of the injuries that have to do with the physical and there is a part of the injuries that has to do with the mental, so we have to overcome them both ways and I think that he is going through that process. He is feeling better and better. He has been working in the field for three or four days now. We cannot give time because we do not know and it would be speculating about something that may not be possible to do, but it is close." Messi was hoping to return on August 31 but that seems to be out of the question for now.
