Rangers vs St Johnstone could be played in Perth as SPFL scramble to find solution to fixture farce

The Premiership encounter on 5 October will either get a Sunday evening kick-off or switch to Perth

Next month's Rangers vs St Johnstone clash could be switched to McDiarmid Park, according to a report.

Record Sport exclusively revealed that the Premiership fixture on 5 October will be pushed back as a result of the Great Scottish Run taking place that day, meaning all major road road routes to Ibrox will be shut for hours thanks to the 10k and half marathon taking place in the city. The match will have to take place on the Sunday due to Philippe Clement 's side hosting Lyon in the Europa League the previous Thursday. And given the travel restrictions due to the running event, a 5pm or 8pm kick-off time was the SPFL solution to the fixture headache.

However, the Courier now claim that the match could be shifted to Perth with Police Scotland apparently saying no to to 3pm and 5pm kick-offs, which leaves an evening start or reversing the fixture to an away one for Gers as the only option on the table. Free midweek dates are at a premium this season due to the expanded European format, so the preference is to get the match played on the original date.
