Arsenal defender Jurrien Timber found himself in a heated exchange with ex-Manchester United striker Wout Weghorst during international duty with the Netherlands. Both players came off the bench in Ronald Koeman's 5-2 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Nations League on Saturday, with another match against Germany scheduled for Tuesday in Amsterdam.

However, tensions flared during a training session ahead of the game, with Timber tackling United's Weghorst, who immediately fell and complained about the challenge. The two then exchanged words, leading to Koeman stepping in to calm things down.

"I said something to you, I said something to them," Koeman was heard saying. Despite this, Weghorst continued to express his frustrations, , reports the Mirror, leading Koeman to declare: "And now it's over! " Although the 32-year-old completed the training session, he quickly left, visibly upset by the incident.

This comes after Koeman had to defend Matthijs de Ligt following criticism of his performance against Bosnia, where he was blamed for both goals conceded. Koeman, however, dismissed the errors as not a "big deal".

When quizzed about De Ligt's performance, Koeman stated: "He himself realises that he was in the wrong position. This should not happen, but mistakes are part of football. I think it is unfair to make a big deal out of it."

However, De Ligt was far less forgiving of his own display, describing it as "f****d" post-match. He confessed: "I think you know how I feel, we won but then comes the individual part. I should have done better at their second goal, and I know that.

"I don't really know what happened.. I should have cleared the ball but I kept having doubts during the play. It's just f****d. If this game is a missed opportunity for me? I don't know, I just try to do my best."
