First Besiktas transfer bullet misfires as van Bronckhorst 'reloads' in race to prise James Tavernier away from Rangers

Another option has been ruled out for Besiktas as the Ibrox skipper continues to be eyed in Turkey

James Tavernier and Gio van Bronckhorst

A quartet of Turkish Super Lig sides have been rebuffed in their pursuit of former England international Kieran Trippier as James Tavernier to Besiktas remains a live option.

Gio van Bronckhorst – unbeaten during a brilliant start in Istanbul – is seeking a new right-back and decision makers at Besiktas asked the question of Newcastle United over the availability of Trippier. But Eddie Howe's side have told multiple teams to look elsewhere with the Turkey transfer deadline arriving on Friday night. Haber Turk report Besiktas are also major admirers of Rangers hall of famer Tavernier, however, there is a feeling they will be forced to wait until January with the Light Blues unavailable to add to their squad until the winter window.

And multiple reports insist Tavernier remains a live option for Besiktas with one claiming van Bronckhorst has held talks with the Rangers captain's camp with his future unclear in the wake of a chastening defeat to Celtic. Tavernier – linked with a clutch of clubs over the summer – was verbally accosted by one irate fan outside Ibrox.

Trabzonspor pushed the boat out to sign the 31-year-old after capturing John Lundstram and Borna Barisic, however, interest cooled and Tavernier pledged his future to the Ibrox cause under Philippe Clement. But now van Bronckhorst could be in position to test Rangers' resolve for a player with two years remaining on his current Ibrox deal.
