Rangers flop Fabio Silva has insisted he DID succeed at Rangers – and has shown it by his loan switch to Las Palmas.

Big things were expected from the 22-year-old - who was Wolves' record signing for £35million four years ago - when he moved to the Scottish Premiership in January but he failed to live up to the hype under Philippe Clement as he netted just four league goals before returning to Molineux. However, the unfazed Portugal U21 international is looking to kickstart his career in Spain with La Liga strugglers - as he attempts to shake of his mega-money price tag forked out by the English Premier League side.

Speaking at his Las Palmas unveiling, he said: "I was in Scotland last year and now I'm going to La Liga. I think I've succeeded. I've taken a step forward and I'm going to play against the best players in the world. My transfer fee is something that's in the past. I didn't force the club to pay that amount for me. I just did my job, as I always do. I'm 22 years old and I feel like I've done things well."

While Silva struggled, many fans have hoped to see Harry Souttar make a loan move to Ibrox to join brother John in the Light Blues' backline. The Australia international set the rumour mill alight when he was snapped on holiday wearing a retro Rangers top on his holiday. But he left Leicester City on loan for Sheffield United instead.

However, he has now revealed that he could have been playing alongside his brother for the Blades - with the Scotland cap traveling to Bramall Lane before penning a deal in Govan. He told the Sheffield Star: “I spoke to him. He came down here when his contract came to an end with Hearts and for whatever reason it didn’t work out.

"He was just very happy for me to get the deal done and it was a good conversation. There’s not so much rivalry between us any more; we only played each other once up in Scotland and it was a nervous day for the family.

"He’s been in Scotland his whole career and I’ve been down here for the last seven years but it certainly makes it challenging for the family to come down here when he’s up there. There was a bit of chat between us at corners and stuff, but I’ll leave that for another day!”

A potential summer outgoing was Cyriel Dessers - with a return to Italy touted for the frontman. However, Cagliari have played down the prospect of a move for the striker as the club looked to recoup the £4.5million they paid to sign the 29-year-old from Cremonese.

Sporting director Nereo Bonato said the focus for the Serie A side was on bringing in young talent, telling Tuttomercatoweb: “It was a good window. We have achieved our objectives,

"We are building a basic structure following the philosophy of the club. More aggressive and dynamic. We want to focus on young targets, possibly Italian, also keeping in mind the playing characteristics of our coach, as well as the economic constraints and parameters.”
