Tom Wagner and Tom Brady could take Birmingham City to Las Vegas in their quest to make the club big in America.

A pre-season tour Stateside has felt inevitable from the moment US-based Knighthead, fronted by Wagner, took control of the club last summer. The presence of seven-time Super Bowl champion Brady gives Blues some additional pulling power across the pond.


Brady is on track to become a minority owner in NFL franchise Las Vegas Raiders and Sin City could be Blues’ destination.


Asked about the prospect of a pre-season tour in the US, Blues chairman Wagner told BirminghamLive: “That sounds like a great idea. Maybe we could do something in Las Vegas, that would be interesting.”

Brady chipped in: “That’s the best place in the world for it!”

The subject of Blues playing in America was particularly pertinent last night, when St Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park hosted the club’s League One fixture with Wrexham. It was suggested in the summer that Blues had initiated a conversation with EFL chiefs over the possibility of playing the match overseas. It was dismissed by EFL bosses but Blues’ chief executive Garry Cook maintains that it’s ‘a great idea’.

Wagner commented: “That’s not really up to me, so I will let the powers that be answer that question. What we would like to do is keep the club matches accessible to our fans, but at the same time we would like to look at ways to drive increased revenue and attention and commercial aspects of the club.

“We will look at all angles but what we don’t want to do is take away from the experience of our fans because ultimately it’s their club and we have to remember that.”
