Christian Eriksen reveals what Manchester United must improve after thrashing Barnsley

Man United hammered Barnsley 7-0 in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday and Christian Eriksen scored a brace.

Christian Eriksen has challenged his Manchester United teammates to become more consistent on the back of their ruthless 7-0 win over Barnsley in the Carabao Cup.

United recorded their widest margin of victory under Erik ten Hag on Tuesday night, easily dispatching the League One side at Old Trafford.

Eriksen, Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho all scored twice each and Antony converted a penalty. United were utterly dominant against the third division side and secured their place in the next round of the Carabao Cup, which they won in Ten Hag's first season in charge.

United returned from the break with a comfortable win over Southampton and built further momentum on Tuesday by delivering a stylish performance in front of their home support.

A delighted Eriksen spoke to club media after the game and reflected on the performance while also challenging his teammates to become consistent after an 'up and down' start.

"When we finally opened the back, the goals went in and that was a nice feeling, also to give something back to the fans on Tuesday night," said Eriksen with a smile on his face.

"The first part of the game, we were struggling a bit, we weren't really finding the right positions and obviously they were going full at it, but when we scored the first one, it opened up.

"We were more secure, finding our free spaces and after that we were clinical. I like both of my goals, although the player that I am, I like to shoot outside the box, so I prefer the second one because it's a drill I've been doing for a long time - ever since I've been in England.

"It's definitely something we can and will take with us, obviously we had already this season a few ups and downs, but it's about staying in, start having consistency in every competition.

"We need to start having good results in every game and the demand is a lot, but everyone is fit, ready to go, and when you start winning games, the atmosphere lightens up."

Eriksen was asked about Rashford, who now has three goals in his last two appearances, and he responded: "He's a goalscorer, we need him at his best and I'm sure he'll improve even more. He's always creating chances for the team and himself, and he's putting them away."

United are in action next against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday, September 21.
