Man Utd flop Anthony Martial completes odd move after leaving on free transfer

Anthony Martial, the ex-Manchester United forward whose time at the club was marred by injury, has finally penned a deal with Greek side AEK Athens.

The Frenchman waved goodbye to Old Trafford in June after an injury-riddled nine-year stint came to an unceremonious end. A free agent after his contract expired this past summer, AEK Athens have now snapped up the French forward.

Hot on the heels of David de Gea who spent a year club-less following his release from United in 2023, interest in Martial seemed thin on the ground post-United. However, AEK Athens have boldly rolled the dice on the French forward's fitness woes.

Martial bagged himself 90 goals throughout his Red Devils run, although persistent injuries haunted him during his time at Old Trafford. His final bow for United happened in December 2023, half a year before his contract ended.

Signed as a teen from Monaco, Martial made a splash by netting against Liverpool on debut, yet never quite lived up to the hype. In a statement to United fans following his exit, Martial said: "Dear Manchester United fans. It's with great emotion that I write to you today to say goodbye. After nine incredible years at the club, the time has come for me to turn a new page in my career.
